Election year is upon us and Bully Bloc is ready to roll with the Mississippi Legislature in session! I’m pleased to announce that we finished 2014 strong, hosting fundraisers for both Governor Phil Bryant and Lt. Governor Tate Reeves. We hosted our Annual Meeting attended by almost every statewide elected official and many of you. Former MSU President Malcolm Portera and former MS Governor Haley Barbour were the keynote speakers.
We cannot stop now. We must set the tone for MSU’s needs and ensure that elected officials have their interests at heart. Every state elected office is on the ballot, including your representatives and senators. Get to know these candidates, and inform them of your support of Mississippi State’s interests.
I’m pleased to announce ten new members to our board. Steve Corbitt of Ridgeland, Jenn Gregory of Starkville, Jonathan Lee of Jackson, Buzzy Mize of Tupelo, Pierce Moore of Jackson, Richard Puckett of Flowood, Bill Stone of Jackson, Dr. Kenneth Thomas of Starkville, Lee Weiskopf of Jackson, and Jim Young of Jackson. They are excellent additions and they offer energy and experience to continue to make Bully Bloc the largest PAC in the state.
I’d like to recognize outgoing Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Commissioner Hank Bounds for his service to Mississippi. We wish him the best in his new role at the University of Nebraska. Governor Bryant appointed former Bully Bloc Board Member, Glenn McCullough, Jr. of Tupelo as a Trustee for the IHL Board. Glenn will be a strong leader for our state and our universities.
Finally, please renew and consider upgrading your Bully Bloc membership in 2015. We need resources to support MSU minded candidates. We will be thoughtful in our support and good stewards of your dollars. Bob Montgomery of Canton will serve as our legislative and elections chair in 2015. Please let me or our Executive Director, Marie Sanderson, know if you have any ideas, needs or questions at email@example.com. Thanks in advance for supporting Bully Bloc in 2015.
