I’ve been honored to serve as Bully Bloc’s Chairman for three years, and as my term has come to an end, I could not be more excited about the future of this organization. We have successfully raised over $1.8 million since Bully Bloc’s founding, which has positioned us as the most effective lobbying organization for higher education in the state of Mississippi.
In 2015 we stood side-by-side with our most powerful statewide officials in support of their re-election campaigns. We endorsed old and new friends in their quest for public office, and 91% of our endorsed candidates were elected.
There have been changes to our leadership team in 2016, and I’m confident that these individuals have the same passion for supporting our beloved Mississippi State University as I and our former leaders do. Jonathan Lee, a 2000 and 2002 graduate of Mississippi State University has assumed the Chairman’s role as of January 1st, and I’m truly thrilled about the future of Bully Bloc under his strong leadership. Jonathan is well known in the Jackson area and throughout Mississippi, and will represent our organization with class and dedication.
Bob Montgomery has led our governmental affair efforts with true leadership and commitment, and I can’t thank him enough for lending his expertise and knowledge over the years. He has placed these efforts in the hands of Bucky Murphy, and I’m confident that Bucky will treat these affairs in a similar way as Vice President for Governmental Affairs.
Marie Sanderson has served as our Executive Director for the last three years, and as I know you’ve experienced, we’ve been blessed by her leadership, diligence and motivation to keep Bully Bloc running professionally and efficiently. Marie has graciously agreed to continue to serve Bully Bloc as a board member in 2016. Jenn Gregory of Starkville will succeed Marie as Vice President for Operations.
Other board members filling leadership positions include Oscar Hartman as Vice Chairman, Lee Weiskopf as Vice President for Student Engagement and Dr. Kenneth Thomas as Vice President for Membership and Recruitment.
Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead Bully Bloc from 2013-2015, and I look forward to continue supporting you in whatever way I can.
Reed Nelson | Outgoing Chairman
