I appreciate your encouragement in my first quarter serving as Chairman of Bully Bloc. I have been met with support from members, elected officials and university affiliates, and I’m excited with the work that’s been completed on their behalf.
We began this year by expanding our Executive Board to include Eric Graham of Jackson, MS, Dr. David Powe of Forest, MS, Mary E. Shapley of Ridgeland, MS and Jerry Toney of Starkville, MS. You can read profiles of David and Jerry in this newsletter edition. We hosted a luncheon for Mississippi State University’s Stennis Montgomery Association (SMA), in which we invited lobbyists and governmental affairs professionals to participate in a panel for SMA’s bright and dedicated students. Developing young Bulldog leaders is a goal of ours, and we look forward to continue cultivating these relationships throughout the year.
The Mississippi legislative session has ended, and our Governmental Affairs team worked tirelessly to build relationships and support Mississippi State University with several legislative initiatives. In the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate, 31 of 35 candidates endorsed by Bully Bloc were elected, which provided strong connections going into the legislative session. Speaker of the House Philip Gunn and Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves remain close friends of Bully Bloc, and we experienced their support and favor throughout the session. For that, we’re so grateful.
In this non-election year, we will solidify our focus on two primary goals: increasing our fundraising efforts and improving our membership database records. It is imperative as we prepare for another election cycle that we work aggressively to capitalize our organization, and we will depend on your support to achieve this goal. We ask that you consider assisting the Executive Board by submitting names, email addresses and mailing addresses of fellow Bulldogs, so we may increase our reach for programs and initiatives. We are expanding our fundraising team and efforts to further cultivate existing relationships, and to recruit new members to Bully Bloc. As always, thank you for your continued financial support.
Secondly, we are committed to enhancing our system of records within the organization, and similarly, our success will depend on your responsiveness. Make sure to read “Stay Connected” to learn more about our new database management software.
Thank you for joining with us, hand in hand, as we continue to serve and support our beloved Mississippi State University and higher education throughout Mississippi. I look forward to working with you, and I hope you’ll contact me if you have any questions or needs at email@example.com.
