Last year, Mississippi State University received an additional $5.5 million in appropriated funds. Those funds were primarily used for faculty and staff raises while some of the funds were used for new faculty positions. Another program receiving assistance through MSU’s appropriations was the Student Success Center, which focuses on student retention at MSU. In addition to the funds appropriated to Mississippi State last year, funds were provided through the bond bill. The library expansion project on campus received $7 million and the YMCA received $4.9 million in bonds.
This year, MSU will work with the other state universities to advocate for an increase of 5% in state appropriations to go towards faculty and staff salaries. These funds will be awarded on a merit-based process. From the bonding standpoint, Bully Bloc will work with the other universities to push forward a third year of an agreed-to bond program.
The last date to qualify for 2015 elections was February 27, 2015. The primary election will be held on August 4, 2015, and the general election will be held on November 3, 2015.
